So perhaps 'Register' in the context of Retropie means 'Make me aware of what Bluetooth devices are available during this session?' and 'Connect' means to pair the device? Still seems very confusing that those 12 devices I found during the 'Searching' would all of a sudden now show up in the list in Step 3 even though I didn't take any action on them.

If I then cancel out of that without connecting to any devices and choose Display Registered & Connected Bluetooth Devices again, I'm now shown the 2 devices I know I have paired plus the additional 12 devices for a total of 14 devices (or it varies based on what is found in 'Searching' step) On you Raspberry Pi terminal, run RetroPie installation menu using the commands cd /RetroPie-Setup and sudo. And where are you getting this list of 'registered' devices? Explain it so that I can do it at home. Connect your Pad via USB cable to your Pi 4B while RetroPie is running, disconnect your Pad from USB, then pair it via Bluetooth, and while youre pairing it.
